Catherine McKnight Obituary

Catherine Elizabeth Mcknight, AKA Turk, was born on February 5, 1956 to Gwendolyn Elizabeth Richardson.  She is the adopted daughter of Louis Favor Jones “LF” and the step-daughter of Thomas Dervin Jr..  Married twice, (Calvin Golston/Andrew Mcknight), she was the mother of two sons; Carlos Dean Golston Sr (Sheila) and Clayton “Vydal”  Campbell. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren;  Brittany Zeigler, Jasmine Golston, Diamond Golston, Carlos Golston Jr.(CJ), Carlos Jamar Campbell (Juze), and Ayden Golston;  two great grandchildren Greyson Jones and Carter Jones. She was preceded in death by her sister the late Rev. Paula Way. Her precious family that mourn her passing include her beloved mother Gwendolyn Dervin, her sister Denise Buckner (Brentson), and Brother Reginald Richardson and her aunt Patricia Richardson (Stanley), and include a host of nieces, nephews, and family. She is a 1974 graduate of Airport High School, Certified Nursing Assistant, and accomplished seamstress.  She retired from the Federal Reserve after 31 years in 2006. In addition, she retired from the SC. Department of Juvenile Justice as a Correctional Officer after 10 years of service. She worked with Amazon for approximately 2 years until her health would not permit.  

The House of Prayer Holiness Church is where she spent much of her youth ”Praising Jesus” sometimes into the early hours of the morning.  She continued her  “Faith Walk” at the Brookland Baptist Church (West Columbia) and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church (Swansea).  The Birchwood Chapel on the campus of DJJ has now captured many hours of her time along her Journey.  

 Catherine  is a past President of the Young Missionaries at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church (Swansea).  She has worked in the community to register persons to vote and served on the Tanner Industries Board.  Catherine  lived her life praising and glorifying God through song, testimony, and praise. She is a firm and proven product believer in the area of the “Power of Repentance!”  Her favorite bible chapter is Psalm 27, verse 10.  Her favorite movies are “The Apostle” and “The Shawshank Redemption”.
