On Sunday morning, November 1, 2020, after battling Esophageal cancer, the soft, gentle voice of our Lord and Savior called Charles Edward James, Sr. to his eternal home.
Charles was born March 19, 1946 in Denmark, SC to the late Mrs. Lureen Frederick James and the late Mr. Freddie James, Sr. He was a member of the New Beginning UMC, Norway, SC. He attended school in Denmark, SC. He worked with Mack Garrick, Lou Givens, and Carl Starling as a concrete finisher.
Charles was joined in holy wedlock to Helen Myers and to this union five children were born. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy C. James and three brothers, Henry C. James, Eddie James, Sr., and Jonathan James.
He had a love for livestock mainly hogs. He and his brother Otis spend hours tending to their hogs. Whenever the family had a function and wanted barbeque and hash, we did not have to worry about buying a hog, it was at our fingertip. There were family members who had never seen butchering, so he and Otis donated hogs and the brothers taught their nieces and nephews how to butcher. He also enjoyed fishing and going to baseball games. His cellphone was his outlet and line of communication with his friends. He would bring the news whether it was right or wrong, and sometimes you could not tell him that he was wrong. Like all of us, Charles had his habits but that never stopped him from being a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Charles is already missed, and he will always be loved and never forgotten.
Those left to cherish fond memories are his wife, Helen James, Norway, SC; one daughter, Loretta (Lamont) Singleton, Orangeburg, SC; three sons, Charles James, Jr., Charleston, SC, Antonio (Thomasanne) James, Denmark, SC, and Ronderick (Portia) James, Norway, SC; three brothers, Freddie James Jr.(Janice Ray), Denmark, SC, Otis (Jymme Lou) James, and John (Sharon) James both of Norway, SC; six siters, Betty A.
