Deacon Marvin L. Ross was born on September 6, 1949 in Washington, DC to the late Willie Robert Ross and Beatrice Brown Ross. He entered into eternal life to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 23, 2024 after fighting a courageous battle of sickness. Deacon Ross’ unabating faith in the Lord gave him strength to face every adversity with grace. His unwavering love for God guided his life and allowed him to be an example for his family, friends, and all who came in contact with him. He will be sorely missed and loved forever.
At an early age he confessed Christ as his personal savior was baptized and became a member of the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He remained a loyal and active part of the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church until his health weakened. As a disciple and lifelong member he served the congregation in numerous capacities; an Adult Instructor in Sunday School, an instructor in Wednesday evening Bible Study, and a member of the Male Chorus to name a few. He was ordained a Deacon and served for many years. In all of his involvements, he served faithfully, always seeking to please God and help other in any facet.
He was educated in the public schools of Aiken County, South Carolina. He was a faithful and dedicated employee at Savannah River Site Nuclear Solutions for thirty years until his retirement.
He was a faithful provider for his family and for anyone in need. His hobbies included cooking, fishing, and farming. He was a member of Club 66 Men’s Social Club, and a host of other organizations. Above all he loved to study and expound on God’s word. He enjoyed the love and company of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, church members and people throughout the community who were blessed by his kind words, congenial spirit, and generous ways. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn Ross; two brothers, Willie R. Ross and Deacon Dave Ross;
His love, memory and inspiration will forever be engraved in the hearts of his sons, Marcus (Aaliyah) Ross of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Mitigo Council of Aiken, South Carolina; God Son loved as a Son, Eric (Chazmin) Pope of Augusta, Georgia; daughter, Brenda Brown of Aiken, South Carolina; step daughter, Denise (Trese) Thurmond of Grovetown, Georgia; one sister, Virginia Justice; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Ross and Jannie Smith; a close devoted friend, Naomi Ross, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
