Georgia Alice Jacobs affectionately known as “Granny” was born on November 22, 1939 to the late Isaiah and Alma Jacobs in Denmark, South Carolina.
Georgia attended Voorhees public schools. At an early age she joined the Franklin United Methodist Church.
In 1955, she became a resident of Brooklyn, New York where she worked as a receptionist at the Brad Senior Citizen Center. She discovered her passion for tending to others and decided to become a domestic worker. Not only did she love helping others; Georgia also loved the Lord which she learned to express through song. She joined a gospel a gospel group that led her to St. Paul Holiness Church where she accepted Christ as her personal savior.
In 1997, Georgia moved back to South Carolina. She became a member of Holy Temple Outreach in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Years later she joined Future Generation in Denmark, South Carolina, serving the Lord faithfully until she transitioned to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 1, 2018. Georgia was preceded in death by four siblings, Azalee Hill, Betty Blocker, St. Clair Jacobs, and Adell Smalls; one Goddaughter, Ellanora Jacobs; one nephew, Eddie Blocker and one grandson, Zy’marrian Bryant.
Her distinctive voice, bold personality and sharp spirits with huge hats were just a hint of who she was. Anyone who knew Granny knew she was anything but ordinary.
Granny will be sorely missed by a son Kenneth Jacobs; three daughters, Wendy (Willie) Davis, Tanisha Jacobs and Melodisha Jacobs; two sisters, Albertha Jacobs and Alma (Clarence) Blocker; sixteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three godchildren; and a host of family and friends.
