Obituary

On Sunday, March 12, 2022, God opened his heavenly gates and welcomed into his kingdom, another angel, Jha’ Mauri Montrell McCreary (Mauri).

Jha’Mauri was born on June 23, 2006 to Ladovia Hope Washington and Michael McCreary in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. He attended the Bushy Pond Baptist Church, Norway, South Carolina where he sang on the church youth choir.

Jha’Mauri has always been a model student, blazing the academic trail of excellence and ambition as early as elementary school. He exceeded academically as an A/B honor roll student consecutively since first grade until present. Jha’Mauri was a member of the Junior Beta Club which recognizes students with outstanding scholarship. He was also a member of Project beyond. He continued on and blazed the sports trail being named best defensive/offensive soccer goalie up until the age of 10.

He was a sophomore student at Bamberg Ehrhardt High School where he excelled academically, exemplified impeccable character, and demonstrated many achievements. During his high school matriculation he was enrolled in honors English.

Jha’Mauri’s passion for educational excellence continued with one essential academic achievement which included his high school class rank. High school class rank means maintaining excellence in both academics and your extracurriculars. Of course Jha’Mauri met and exceeded those requirements.  As recent as a few weeks ago, Jha’Mauri held a 3.9 GPA and was ranked #22 out of 84 in his class.

Jha’Mauri had a heart full of gold and was one of a kind. He was sweet, humble, and had a gentle soul. He was a very charismatic young man. He loved his family and the time spent together, especially traveling. He also had a great love for gaming with his PS5 gaming system, watching You Tube, playing uno and listening to music.

Jha’Mauri leaves a legacy of memories to be cherished by his loving and supportive mother, Ladovia Hope Washington (Brad Davis) of the home; his father, Michael McCreary (Anita Hemphill) of Columbia, South Carolina; his sister who he adored, Brayla Sanai Davis; step siblings, Madison Tyler, Aaliyah McCreary, Justice McCreary, Serenity Davis and Bradyn Davis; maternal grandparents, Shirley Heart and Ervin Johnson both of Denmark, South Carolina; paternal grandparents, Lora and Michael McCreary of Orangeburg, South Carolina; bonus grandmother, Dorothy Kennedy; bonus great grandmother, Dorothy Capers; god mothers, Cherrelle Hart and Jazzmine Govan; aunt, Carla Abrams; uncles, Ja’Viere Johnson, Travis McCreary, Jamal Moody, and Ryan Johnson; special cousin, Xavier McCreary; favorite cousin, Destiny James; god sister, Mekhyah Ellerbe and a host of amazing great aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that contributed to his life.

Another good soul, gone away too soon, loved by many and cherished by all who knew him. Jha’Mauri you were more than loved and your legacy will forever shine bright!
