Christine B. McClinton, affectionately known as “Giv. Ma” or “Mrs. Chris” by her family and friends, entered into eternal rest on June 2, 2025, at her home. She was born on October 28, 1933, in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late Viola Whitfield and Osby Bowens.
Christine was known for her kind heart, warm spirit, and boundless generosity—always willing to give the shirt off her back to help someone in need. She brought love and light to everyone she met. She found joy in simple pleasures like cooking, fishing, and gardening, and her nurturing nature touched many lives.
She worked at A.C. Flora School, where she made lasting connections with students and colleagues until her health began to decline.
Christine was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished grandmother, and a loyal friend. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cary McClinton; her daughter, Joann McClinton; and her son, Roosevelt Brown.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and treasured memories with her daughter, Carolyn (Roger) Lee of Neeses, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Debra James of Columbia, South Carolina; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
Christine’s life was a testament to compassion, resilience, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
