Mrs. Dorothy “Shine” Gleaton Davenport was born on January 17, 1949 to the late Robert Lee Gleaton and the late Susie Anna Gleaton. She entered into eternal life to be with the Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at her residence. Her unwavering love for God and her radiant personality allowed her to be an example for her family, friends, and all who came in contact with her. She will be sorely missed and loved forever.
She was born January 17, 1949 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, to the late Robert Lee Gleaton and the late Susie Anna Gleaton.“Shine” attended the public schools of Orangeburg County and later began working for Stone Manufacturing until the closing of the plant.
At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, and through Baptism became a member of the Gospel Temple Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her passing. “Shine” was known in the church and the community for her love of cooking. One of her specialties was her sweet potato pie. During her time at Gospel Temple. she served on the Gospel Choir, Kitchen Ministry and Pastor Aide Ministry. She also served as a faithful member of the Crescent City Community Center, Wagener, SC where she made many community friends and connections.
Later in life, she met and married the late Deacon Ozell “Leg” Davenport, which she loved to hear sing. They shared and created many happy memories until his passing on November 3, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ozell; her parents, three brothers and one sister.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: three sons, Greg Gleaton, Eric Gleaton and Reggie Gleaton; four daughters, Dorothy Gleaton, Denise Gleaton, Reshonique Gleaton and Reneshia Gleaton; one step-son, three step-daughters; one brother, Isaac Gleaton; two sisters, Pearlie Mae Gleaton and Irene Jamison and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
