He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Psalm 23:2-4
Mary Elizabeth Brown was born on November 8, 1959 in Orangeburg County to Otis Brown Sr. and Louise Tyler Brown. She peacefully transitioned on Friday, August 22, 2025 in Gaston, SC surrounded by her loving family.
Mary attended Hunter Kinard Tyler High School in Norway, SC. She was a strong, hardworking, kind-hearted woman with a heart of gold. She impacted the lives of so many around her. Mary loved watching movies, cooking, having fun and definitely shopping. She was big on family and most importantly loved her son, siblings, along with her nieces and nephews.
At an early age, Mary joined the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Norway, SC where she remained a faithful member. She worked for many years at Scholtzsky’s Deli and later Food Lion. Her absolute favorite foods were shrimp and fried okra.
Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her two brothers, Otis Brown, Jr. and Ira Brown.
Mary leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories her son, Alexander (Lashonda) Brown of North, SC; three sisters, Wanda Kearse of Orangeburg, SC, Linda Holmon of Gaston, SC and Shyrl Brown of Columbia, SC; along with a host of aunts, uncles, special nieces and nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.
Mary’s warmth, strength, and kindness will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
