Mr. Percell James, 92 of 2933 Pilgrim Rock Road, Columbia, SC son of the late Lemuel and Juruther James Isaac was born March 4, 1928. He transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Monday, May 11, at the Dorn Veterans Hospital, Columbia, SC.
He served in the US Army for 2 years where he drove a tank in the Korean War. Percell was married to his loving and caring wife, Eva Mae Wood James for 67 years.
Percell moved to Washington, DC and lived there for 30 years before moving back to South Carolina. He was employed by Donohoe Construction Company from November 1957 – July 1990, 32 years, until he retired. After retirement he did brick masonry work around the neighborhood.
He was a faithful member of Pleasant Branch United Methodist Church (currently New Beginning), until his health declined. He served as an Usher, on the Senior Choir and was the oldest member of the Male Chorus.
Percell loved taking his prize possessions to the flea market to sell, but often came back with more than he took. He also enjoyed gardening, going fishing with his cousins, playing poker and checkers. He was preceded in death by his brother Freddie Isaac and sisters, Maggie Corbitt, Cleola Thomas and Mary Ruth Porterfield.
He leaves to cherish loving memories his wife, Eva Mae James, one daughter, Towana Michelle Spells; one granddaughter, Nacole James all of the home; and one grandson, Rafeal Williams of Columbia, SC; three brothers-in-law, June (Elvetic) Brown, Arthur (Betty) Brown, and Belton Goodwin all of Columbia, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
